in tucson has helped inform us of who we are. i got that phonecall and i couldn't believe it. almost a year ago in january, phonecall from a teacher who said jeff, they have come into our rooms and confiscated our books. in tucson, the same school district that i was a product in the first years of my life. they had gone into this room and taken out seven textbooks, like rethinking columbus a book that is sold hundreds of thousands of copied, used by kids in rural alaska all the way to rural maine who have that -- and that book was put away into storage. and 11 teachers, almost a dozen teachers were told that they no longer have the right to teach literature from the perspective of mexican-americans, those who have given us our school district from the perspective of rethinking columbus. .. i have to begin, and i will tell you something about our stories. i went to find my story. i had been living outside of tucson for years, and i wanted to come back, working on another book, and deeply ameshed, of course, in other struggles and conflicts as the journalist in the coal fields around the wor

in tucson. 13 will bonded, including gabrielle giffords the shepherd of good will -- gunshot wound to the head. he will receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole. he has been undergoing psychological treatment at a missouri treatment facility. an arizona man in prison for nearly four decades for murder is a free man. he was convicted twice for murdering two people in 1962. for years the justice group fought for his release saying there was no dna evidence and the other man was convicted for the crime. the arizona governor refused his release. time passed and prosecutors refused to try him a third time, instead of agreeing to a plea deal. he pleaded no contest to second- degree murder. the judge agreed to sentence him for time served and released him from prison here yet flames light of the night sky in phoenix after a large number of hay bales caught on fire. officials hope to at least contain it soon. no word on what started the fire, but next just -- excess moisture can promote the growth of bacteria that causes hay to cut fire. that is quite a fire. still to come

in prison after giving him seven life sentences. fox's dan springer has the story from tucson, arizona. >> jared loughner was sentenced today to multiple terms of life in prison. this sentence assures that will never be released from custody. >> reporter: the 24-year-old convicted killer will never be a free man again. loughner sat quietly in the tucson courtroom thursday refusing to make any statement but listening to the shooting victims and family members affected by his crimes. >> then i turned to mr. loughner and said i hold you -- hold no hatred for you, but i am very, very angry and sick of heart about what you did and the hurt you have imposed on all of us. >> reporter: loughner was handed seven life sentences. six people were killed during his shooting rampage back in january of 2011 and 13 other people were wounded. many victims see this day as a way to close the book including daniel hernandez, credited with saving gabby giffords' life. >> while we may not be able to bring back any of the people who lost their lives or give back the people who have been injured and heal al
